Why Gigabit Internet Is Only Getting 300 Mbps
A 300 Mbps result on gigabit internet can come from Wi-Fi limits, cables, hardware, congestion, or test conditions.
When gigabit internet is only getting 300 Mbps, the result does not always mean the ISP is delivering the wrong service. A speed test measures the complete path between one device and one test server. Check the Test Conditions First

Old or damaged Ethernet cables
A cable rated below Cat5e, a damaged connector, or a poorly terminated wall jack can prevent a gigabit Ethernet link. A device may fall back to 100 Mbps, or errors and retransmissions may reduce performance. Replace questionable patch cables with a known-good Cat5e or better cable and check the negotiated link speed.
Router or modem hardware limits
Some routers, gateways, and cable modems cannot route or process gigabit traffic at full speed, particularly when firewall inspection, parental controls, VPN features, or security scanning are enabled. Confirm that the WAN port and LAN ports support gigabit or faster Ethernet and review the manufacturer's throughput specifications.
Device network adapter limits

- Replace old cables and avoid damaged wall jacks, low-quality adapters, and unnecessary Ethernet couplers.
- Update router, modem, mesh-system, and network-adapter firmware.

Before reporting a fault, confirm whether the plan's advertised gigabit rate is a maximum or a guaranteed minimum. Also ask whether the supplied modem or router has a documented throughput limit.
